You want to be a stand-up comedian, but you don't know where to start? Or you just want to watch a class? This is for you.
Join me on Sunday 9th of May (SOLD OUT) or Sunday 16th of May for a four hour Comedy Master Class, where I will tell you everything I know about how to do stand-up comedy.
I started doing stand-up in Danish in 2010 after having spent four months watching live stand-up every night, armoured with a notebook, eager to learn. I read fifteen books on 'How To Do Stand-Up', I watched all the documentaries and I spent my evenings bothering famous comedians, begging them to tell me how comedy works. I was - and still am - desperately curious to learn everything there is to learn about stand-up. Eleven years, a move to the UK, several big awards, four stand-up shows, four national tours, a book deal, a Netflix, a BBC and a Comedy Central comedy special later, I think it's safe to say that I do know a bit already. At least enough to help you get started.
AS A STUDENT, here is what you will get from this master class:
You will learn how to write and improve your first set. This includes all the basics: delivery, joke writing techniques, how to get a spot, microphone technique, how to calm your nerves, how to survive dying on stage and so on.
You will learn about different types of comedy and comedians and you'll be introduced to comics you probably never knew existed.
We will talk about the Edinburgh Fringe Festival and How To Do It Well.
You'll get the tools to be easier be able to figure out what your 'voice' or 'style' is.
You will meet your fellow classmates - and be part of a community of other comedy newbies, so you can support each other on your comedy journey. Having friends in comedy when you start out makes a huge difference - so you can write jokes together, do gigs together and give each other notes.***
I will keep my eye on you forever, as you are now an official Sofie Hagen Comedy Master Class Student, Class of May 2021. I will be excited to follow your career and you'll be able to (within reason) send me videos of your set or questions, if you feel like you're stuck. And in the future, if you decide to do a full-hour show, I'd love to watch it and give you notes.***
The chance to ask any question you want - for the last 45-60 minute's Q&A.***
*** These will not be available to people just observing the class.
On the day
The class will take place on ZOOM.
If you buy a STUDENT ticket, you're encouraged to actively participate so you can bond with your fellow classmates, but it's not a requirement and you're allowed to just sit back with your camera and microphone off, if that's how you feel the most comfortable.
If you are just an OBSERVER, you will have your microphone and camera off.
The class will include a brief coffee/tea/pee break, so make sure you've had lunch before it starts. (Or late breakfast... I don't judge.)

Ticketing
I have decided to make four types of tickets available.
'I Can Afford It', 'I Can't Really Afford It' and 'I'm Buying For Myself + Someone Who Can't Really Afford It'. And 'Just Watching, Don't Mind Me'.
FOR STUDENTS: It's up to you to decide which category you fit into. My dream is that the cheapest tickets go to the people who we really need on our comedy stages but who don't have the priviliges that make it easy to do so. I won't require 'evidence' that you can or can't afford it. That's between you and yourself.
Likewise, the cheapest tickets are only possible because of the most expensive tickets - again, if you can afford this, you know who you are. You're that rich person we won't eat when the revolution comes because you're so nice.
FOR OBSERVERS: This would suit you if you have no intention of ever doing stand-up but you're just super curious. It would also suit you if you were too late for the student spots, but you simply HAVE to learn.
